Note 9 : Leigh
Harline (b. 1907 ) had since 1932 been linked to the Walt Disney Studio as one of
several composers of music for the short cartoons. He was also one of the
composers on Disney's " Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs ", along with
Frank Churchill and Paul Smith. Finally, Harline also was composer of Disney's
" Pinocchio ", along with Ned Washington and Paul Smith. For this
film composed Harline including the melody of the song When you wish upon a
Star ( "Når du ser et stjerneskud").
Paramount,
which, incidentally, had its headquarters in Times Square in New York City, was
not prepared to give up cartoon production, but just to get rid of the mutually
divided and warring Fleischer brothers and some of their employees, while the
rest were offered new contract but at lower wages. It reorganized the studio
and called it Famous Studios (after Paramount's Famous Music Corporation).
Under the artistic direction of Max Fleischer's son, animator and director
Seymour Knitel and animator and director Isadore (Izzy) Sparber, and with a
former employee, Sam Buchwald, as studio manager, continued production of
Popeye and several other cartoon series. Later reduced Paramount its staff at
Famous Studios, and the company moved to New York.
