Note 20: Re. Dudley Buxton, see Maurice Horn, cited work, pp. 151-152. - Among the British cartoonists, animators, and directors who in 1914 began as so-called 'lightning cartoonists' in some short films, was also Lancelot Speed (1860-1931). It was the war that made him and others see some opportunities in the cartoon medium. For The Neptune Pictures Company, Speed made the 1914 series Bully Boy. For Imperial Pictures, he produced Tank Pranks and The U Tube (1917), Tommy Atkins and Britain's Effort (1918), and Britain's Honor (1919). In these films, he used various techniques, including undercut camera and cardboard cut-out figures. After the war, he worked as a "technical advisor" on The Adventures of Pip, Squeak and Wilfred, a series of cut-out cartoons based on the cartoon of the same name.
